About Us at Mackay Hyundai

About Us

It was 1993 when John and Gail Glanville together with family owned business, Sci-Fleet Motors bought into local automotive business International Motors, now known as Autocorner, home to Mackay Hyundai.

Originally the company was owned by Laurence Barry, and operational partners Phil Pace, Tom Bimrose, Ken Denning and Don Christiansen, before brothers Ron and Colin Searle bought into the company in 1978. International Motors was primarily a retail automotive business holding Toyota, Mercedes Benz and Hino Truck franchises.

From small beginnings at the corner of Gordon and Gregory Streets, and later Wood and Shakespeare Streets, International Motors made its final relocation to the current premises on the corner of Nebo Road and Shakespeare Street in 1980 and was renamed Autocorner in 2005.

The premises undertook a huge transformation between 2005 and 2007 and now houses Mackay Hyundai (previously City Motors), Mackay Mazda, Mackay Toyota, and the Used Car Hypermarket.

Since John Glanville’s retirement in late 2014, Georgia Thomson has taken Mackay Hyundai under her wing. Part of the Sci-Fleet family, Georgia has relocated to Mackay alongside her husband, James Thomson who also works at Autocorner.

Mackay Hyundai is proud to be local, employing over 200 staff, including 20 apprentices.
